Bicycle Research and Advanced Vibrations Engineering Laboratory

BRAVE Lab

Bicycle Research and Advanced Vibrations Engineering Lab at Western Carolina University College of Engineering design showing a bicycle in the mountains

The Bicycle Research and Advanced Vibrations Engineering (BRAVE) Lab at Western Carolina University seeks to advance regionally relevant engineering research in two key areas:

  • Bicycle Technology — including road, mountain, and electric bikes
  • Mechanical Vibrations — focusing on the dynamics and control of complex mechanical structures

At the BRAVE Lab, we combine hands-on experimentation with cutting-edge analysis to support innovation, education, and community impact in the fields of cycling and structural dynamics.

Founded in 2025, the lab is housed within the WCU College of Engineering and Technology in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
